Pimpri Chinchwad, 27th April 2026: A residential Shramanera camp began on Sunday in Akurdi, bringing together Buddhist monks, practitioners, and lay devotees for a two-week spiritual programme focused on learning and discipline.
The camp, scheduled from April 26 to May 10, is being jointly organised by the Ex-Shramanera Association, Pune, in collaboration with Takshashila Mitra Sangh and the Buddhayana Mahasangh.
The Shramanera Pravrajya (ordination) ceremony was held on the opening day at Takshashila Buddha Vihara in Pradhikaran, Akurdi. The ceremony was conducted in the presence of senior Buddhist monks, including Bhante Nagghosh, Bhante Rajratna, and Bhante Buddhaghosh.
A large number of lay devotees, including Upasakas and Upasikas, along with newly ordained Shramaneras, attended the event. Among the prominent attendees were Prakash Naik, President of the Ex-Shramanera Association; former presidents P.S. Meshram and D.T. Bhosale; Ramdas Jagtap; Dr. Vilas Adhav; Nirmalatai Waikar, President of Takshashila Mitra Mandal; Sunil Tayade; and journalist Datta Suryavanshi from Dainik Vrutaratna Samrat.
Organisers said the camp aims to promote Buddhist teachings, discipline, and community engagement among participants through residential training and spiritual activities over the next two weeks.
The inaugural ceremony concluded in a spiritually uplifting and auspicious atmosphere.
