Pimpri, 11th May 2026: In a major relief for residents living in housing societies across Pimpri-Chinchwad, a special policy for tree trimming within society premises will soon be introduced by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), MLA Shankar Jagtap announced on Monday.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting held with PCMC Commissioner Dr Vijay Suryawanshi to review issues related to urban infrastructure, traffic congestion, environment, and civic amenities in the city.
Additional Commissioners Kuldeep Jangam and Vikrant Bagade, Deputy Commissioner Anna Bodade, City Engineer Manoj Sethiyaa, Chief Engineer Sanjay Kulkarni, Co-City Engineers Pramod Ombase and Bapu Gaikwad, along with Prerana Sinkar, Ajay Suryawanshi and heads of various departments, were present at the meeting.
At present, the civic body undertakes tree trimming only in public spaces, while housing societies have to bear the expenses for trimming trees within their premises. Jagtap said the proposed policy aims to reduce the financial burden on residents, especially before the monsoon season when tree trimming becomes necessary for safety reasons.
тАЬResidents living in housing societies were being forced to spend large amounts from their own pockets for tree trimming. I have instructed the administration to formulate a separate policy to ease this burden and provide relief to lakhs of citizens,тАЭ Jagtap said.
As part of environmental conservation measures, the MLA also directed officials to ensure that at least one tree is planted between every two electric poles along roads that are currently under construction before the completion of road works.
During the meeting, instructions were also issued to organise a joint meeting of PCMC, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), and the district administration to address air pollution caused by Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) plants.
Officials informed the meeting that notices have already been issued to around 150 builders for allegedly violating the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) related to RMC operations. Jagtap suggested that RMC regulations should also be included as part of environmental clearance conditions for construction projects.
The civic administration has also started a survey of public toilets across the city. It was decided that land reservations for quality public toilets would be included in the upcoming draft development plan. Jagtap further suggested using CSR funds for constructing dedicated тАЬShe ToiletsтАЭ for women.
The MLA also directed authorities to reserve land for a post office in Pimple Saudagar.
In view of the upcoming monsoon, officials have been instructed to immediately complete the cleaning of drains and streams across the city. Zonal office officials have also been granted full authority to remove illegal constructions and encroachments from nullahs and stream areas.
Jagtap additionally directed the administration to urgently address the issue of contaminated water in the Kalewadi area.
The administration has also been instructed to implement the тАЬAssured Progress SchemeтАЭ and тАЬIn-Service Scheme,тАЭ which are expected to provide direct financial benefits to around 2,800 municipal employees.
Employees who worked round the clock for registration under the тАЬMajhi Ladki Bahin YojanaтАЭ will also be given a special incentive allowance, Jagtap said.
He further stated that the process of transferring the Zilla Parishad school in Punawale to the municipal corporation would be expedited.
Meanwhile, several measures were discussed to tackle traffic congestion in the city. Instructions were issued to expedite road widening works, including the Kaspate Wasti road project, and clear тАЬfree leftтАЭ turns at major junctions to reduce travel time for motorists.
The MLA also directed officials to make urgent financial provisions for the proposed underpass at Swarajya Chowk in Pimple Saudagar and the flyover at PK Chowk.
In a significant move, the width of footpaths developed under the тАЬUrban StreetтАЭ and Smart City projects at Kalptaru Chowk, RK Chowk, and Sangvi Phata will be reduced to widen roads and improve traffic flow.
Jagtap said a joint meeting between traffic police and the municipal administration would soon be held to identify accident-prone and traffic congestion hotspots and implement immediate solutions.
