Pimpri Chinchwad, 15th May 2026: Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for austerity and fuel conservation Pimpri Chinchwad Mayor Ravi Landge on Thursday travelled by bicycle from his residence to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation headquarters to attend the general body meeting. He also carried out his official engagements throughout the day using a bicycle.
Accompanying him during the initiative were City Engineer Bapu Gaikwad, Deputy Engineer Amit Dixit and personal assistants Abhay Chougule and Sandeep Palande.
Calling fuel conservation a form of “national service”, the mayor appealed to citizens to use bicycles, public transport and eco-friendly alternatives wherever possible to help reduce fuel consumption and pollution.
The move comes after Prime Minister Modi urged public representatives to adopt bicycles and promote simplicity, fuel savings and environmental protection. Following a similar response at the state government level, the initiative has now reached the Pimpri Chinchwad civic administration.
Landge said the effort should not remain a symbolic one-day activity and expressed his resolve to use a bicycle for official work at least once every week.
Throughout the day, the mayor attended meetings, inspections and civic engagements across the city on a bicycle, drawing attention within the municipal premises and among residents.
He said the civic body plans to revive the city’s public bicycle-sharing scheme and work towards creating dedicated cycling tracks on major roads across Pimpri Chinchwad.
