Pimpri, 2nd July 2026 : Housing society federations across Pune district have launched a public awareness campaign highlighting the importance of verifying long-term water availability before purchasing flats. The campaign, initiated following a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by housing federations, aims to educate homebuyers about developersтАЩ water supply commitments and encourage informed investment decisions.
The campaign is being spearheaded by the Pimpri Chinchwad Co-operative Housing Societies Federation (PCCHSF) and has been extended to residents across Pune district. Through awareness posters and outreach efforts, the federation has urged prospective homebuyers not to rely solely on advertisements or verbal assurances by developers while investing in residential projects.
According to the federation, after representations made in March 2026, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) uploaded details of builders and developers who have obtained No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for construction, along with affidavits submitted by them, on their official websites.
The campaign explains that these affidavits generally state that developers will not seek new municipal water connections until additional water from the Bhama Askhed Dam or other government-approved sources is made available. Until then, developers undertake to arrange water independently without placing an additional burden on municipal water supply systems. They also accept responsibility for providing water through alternative arrangements, including private water tankers, until municipal connections are sanctioned.
The federation has appealed to every homebuyer and investor to verify the long-term availability of water, the source of water supply, the status of municipal water connections, and future water commitments made by developers before purchasing a flat.
Sachin Londhe, President of the Pimpri Chinchwad Co-operative Housing Societies Federation (PCCHSF), said, тАЬFor most families, purchasing a home is the biggest investment of their lives. Before booking a flat, buyers must verify the long-term water source, the status of municipal water connections, and the commitments made by the developer regarding future water supply. Our objective is to promote transparency and ensure that residents do not face water shortages after taking possession of their homes.тАЭ
In conversation with the members of the federation about the significance of their campaign for future home-buyers, Sachin Gunale, a member of the housing federation, said, тАЬThis awareness campaign is about empowering citizens with information. Homebuyers should carefully verify the documents available on the official PMC and PCMC websites and understand how water will be supplied to the project in the long term. A few minutes of verification today can prevent years of inconvenience tomorrow.тАЭ
Yashpal Singh, another federation member, added, тАЬWater security is a fundamental requirement for every residential project. Through this campaign, we are encouraging buyers to ask the right questions before investing. Informed homebuyers will also encourage greater accountability among developers and contribute to more sustainable urban development.тАЭ
The federation urges citizens to refer to the official PMC and PCMC websites for information on water supply NOCs and approved construction projects. The campaign intends to create greater public awareness around water security and help protect the interests of homebuyers across the Pune district.
