Pimple Nilakh, 18th December 2025: Residents of Pimple Nilakh were left shaken on Wednesday after a newborn baby girl was discovered abandoned in a garbage heap, triggering a police investigation into what officers suspect is a case of child abandonment.
The grim discovery was made near a petrol pump when sanitation workers noticed a plastic bag lying amid the trash and alerted authorities after realizing it contained an infant. A police team from Sangvi Police Station rushed to the spot and immediately transported the baby to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.
Preliminary medical assessment suggests that the baby girl was approximately one day old. Police said the control room received the alert around 11 am, following which officers reached the location and secured the area.
Police Inspector (Crime) Amol Nandekar confirmed the sequence of events. тАЬWe received information around 11.30 am about a newborn found in garbage. The infant was taken to the hospital immediately, but doctors confirmed she had already died,тАЭ he said.
A case has been registered at Sangvi Police Station under relevant sections of child abandonment. Investigators believe the person responsible may not be a local resident, though this remains under verification.
Police are currently scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the individual who abandoned the infant. Other forensic and circumstantial evidence is also being collected as part of the ongoing investigation.
The incident has sparked outrage and sorrow among residents, once again drawing attention to the need for stronger awareness, support systems and intervention mechanisms to prevent such tragedies.
