Pimpri Chinchwad, 21st January 2026: In view of the Pune Grand Tour 2026 international cycling race, the district administration has ordered the closure of all government and private schools located along the race route in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) limits after 12 noon on January 23.
The directive has been issued by District Collector and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, Jitendra Dudi, to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of Stage 4 of the cycling event and to minimise inconvenience to citizens.
As per the plan, Stage 4 of the race will start from Chhatrapati Shivaji Stadium in Balewadi. The route will pass through Pune city limits before re-entering Pimpri-Chinchwad via Rajiv Gandhi Bridge. The cyclists will then cover areas including Sangvi, Wakad, Nigdi, Triveninagar, Bhosari, Chikhali and Pimpri-Kalewadi, before returning to Pune city again through Rajiv Gandhi Bridge.
To ensure safety and uninterrupted movement of the race, entry of all types of vehicles on the competition route has been prohibited for the duration of the event. Traffic will be diverted via alternative routes.
To avoid inconvenience to students and parents, schools located along the race corridor in Sangvi, Wakad, Ravet, Tathawade, Punawale, Nigdi Pradhikaran, Indrayani Nagar, Chinchwad MIDC, Chikhali, Kalewadi, Bhosari MIDC, Yashwant Nagar (Pimpri) and Triveninagar will remain open only till 12 noon on January 23, after which they will be closed.
The administration has appealed to citizens to cooperate with traffic diversions and safety arrangements during the international cycling event.
