Pimpri, 26th January 2026: In a major boost to crime control, traffic management, crowd regulation and public safety, the Maharashtra governmentтАЩs High-Powered Committee (HPC) has approved an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based Integrated CCTV Project for the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate. The committee, chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary (Home), has cleared the ambitious, technology-driven policing initiative.
Under the project, strict surveillance will be maintained through CCTV cameras in key industrial and IT hubs, including Chakan, Talegaon Dabhade, Bhosari MIDC and the Hinjawadi IT Park. With rapid urbanisation, rising population density, expanding industrial zones and the growth of IT corridors, Pimpri-Chinchwad has become increasingly sensitive from a law-and-order perspective.
Keeping this in mind, the police commissionerate had proposed a citywide, technology-enabled surveillance system, which has now received official approval.
As part of the project, CCTV cameras already installed under the Pimpri-Chinchwad Smart City Mission and by the municipal corporation will be integrated into a single, unified system. In addition, new cameras will be installed at critical locations and in areas currently not covered by surveillance. Special focus will be given to industrial belts and IT hubs, where round-the-clock monitoring will be ensured through an expanded CCTV network.
The project will also play a key role in managing large crowds and traffic during religious events and festivals. Areas such as Dehu and Alandi, which witness lakhs of devotees during pilgrimages, palkhi processions and major festivals, will be covered under a robust CCTV network to aid crowd management and traffic regulation.
Using advanced AI-based video analytics, the system will enable real-time detection of suspicious activities, traffic violations, crowd density and emergency situations, allowing quick and effective responses by the police. A state-of-the-art Integrated Command and Control Centre will be set up at the new police commissionerate building. Live feeds from the CCTV network will be accessible to zonal Deputy Commissioners of Police, the traffic department and police stations, ensuring coordinated and timely action.
For effective implementation, a Project Implementation Committee (PIC) will be formed under the chairmanship of the Police Commissioner. The 12-member committee will include representatives from the municipal corporation, PMRDA, Pimpri-Chinchwad Smart City Limited, MIDC, the state government and senior police officers, including Additional and Assistant Commissioners from the crime, traffic, communication and information technology branches.
With this approval, Pimpri-Chinchwad moves a step closer to smart, AI-driven policing aimed at enhancing public safety, improving traffic management and strengthening law enforcement across the rapidly growing city.
