Pimpri-Chinchwad, 12th February 2026: In a late-night operation, Sangvi police arrested a 64-year-old woman from Mumbai for allegedly transporting narcotic substances in Pimpri-Chinchwad. Officers seized mephedrone and cocaine collectively valued at approximately Rs 2.6 lakh.
The accused, identified as Veena Deepak Shukla (64), a resident of Juhu Tara Road in Mumbai, was apprehended in the Kashid Park area of Pimple Gurav after police received specific intelligence about a drug delivery.
Police officials said they had been alerted that a woman courier from Mumbai would arrive in the locality to supply narcotics. Acting on the information, a team from Sangvi police station set up surveillance and laid a trap around 11:30 pm on Monday.
Shukla was intercepted after being found moving suspiciously in the area. A subsequent search led to the recovery of 11.5 grams of mephedrone and 9.7 grams of cocaine. The seized contraband has been valued at around Rs 2.60 lakh.
Investigators acknowledged that the accusedтАЩs age came as a surprise, as most cases of drug peddling typically involve younger individuals.
During preliminary questioning, Shukla reportedly told police that she had developed a drug dependency and had agreed to act as a courier to support her addiction. According to investigators, a supplier based in Malad, Mumbai, had entrusted her with delivering the narcotics in Pune.
In exchange, she was allegedly promised either monetary compensation or drugs for personal consumption.
Police are now working to trace the main supplier and dismantle the broader distribution network. Further investigation is ongoing.
