Pimpri-Chinchwad, 12th February 2026: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate has enforced prohibitory orders across the city until midnight on February 17 in view of upcoming festivals and the death anniversaries of freedom fighters Krantiveer Lahuji Salve and Vasudev Balwant Phadke.
The restrictions have been imposed under Section 37 (1)(3) of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951, as a preventive measure to ensure peace and avert any law-and-order disturbances during the sensitive period.
As part of the order, carrying, storing, or transporting explosives, inflammable substances, stones, and weapons has been prohibited. The ban covers items such as sticks, iron rods, spears, swords, knives, sickles, firearms, and even glass bottles or sharp objects that could be used to cause harm.
Authorities have also barred the burning or display of effigies and images of individuals or leaders. The use of obscene or provocative slogans, inflammatory speeches, or gestures that could incite unrest, disturb public decency, or threaten state security has been strictly prohibited.
Preparation or circulation of any material likely to create communal or social tension has also been restricted during this period.
Under sub-section (3) of Section 37, assembly of five or more persons without prior permission has been banned. Organising rallies, public meetings, or processions without written approval from the Police Commissioner will be treated as a violation.
The restrictions, however, do not apply to government officials or personnel authorised to carry arms as part of their official duties.
Police have warned that violations will invite legal action under Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951. The announcement was issued by Joint Commissioner of Police Dr. Shashikant Mahavarkar.
Authorities have appealed to residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and contribute to maintaining peace and harmony in the city during the observance period.
