Pimpri, 28th February 2026: The Water Supply Department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Saturday carried out a major enforcement drive in D Ward, seizing 12 unauthorised water pumps installed in housing societies to draw excess water directly from municipal pipelines.
The action, initiated in the Pimple Nilakh area, is expected to help restore balanced water distribution and improve water pressure for residents in the affected localities.
According to officials, the drive was launched following repeated complaints of low water pressure and instances of contaminated water entering household taps. During a surprise inspection, the water supply team found that in several societies, illegal pumpsтАФsome with capacities as high as two horsepowerтАФhad been directly connected to tap lines to draw water forcefully.
Civic officials said the use of such pumps disrupts the distribution network, leading to inadequate water supply for neighbouring areas. In some cases, the suction created by these pumps was also found to be causing dirty water to enter pipelines, triggering health-related concerns among residents.
The operation was carried out by junior engineer Priyanka Shinde along with other staff members of the water supply department. The drive was conducted under the guidance of executive engineer Mahesh Baride and deputy engineer Pravin Dhumal.
The civic administration said similar action will be taken in other wards in the coming days to ensure fair and sufficient water supply to all citizens. The water supply department has also issued a warning to residents against using unauthorised pumps, stating that strict action will be taken against violators.
Officials reiterated that the crackdown is part of ongoing efforts by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to prevent misuse of the water distribution system and ensure equitable access to water across the city.
