Pimpri Chinchwad, 8th April 2026: Amid reports of a shortage of blood supply, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Wednesday clarified that sufficient stock of all major blood components is available at the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital blood centre, and that no patient has been turned away due to unavailability.
According to hospital authorities, the blood centre currently has a total stock of 450 units, including 215 units of red blood cells, 213 units of plasma, 4 units of platelets and 15 units of cryoprecipitate. Dr. Rajendra Wable, the dean of YCMH said the facility has been maintaining a steady and uninterrupted supply to patients across the city.
On average, 60 to 70 bags of blood components are being distributed to various hospitals and the patients in need. Officials said that in view of rising demand, stock is being managed in a planned manner to ensure availability even during emergencies.
To further augment reserves, six to seven blood donation camps are scheduled in the coming days, with an estimated collection of around 600 units. In addition, nearly 8 to 10 donors visit the blood centre daily to donate their blood. Authorities said they are prepared to scale up collections at short notice by appealing to more donors if required.
PCMC officials reiterated that blood supply remains an essential civic service and emphasised that, so far, no patient in the city has had to return due to a shortage. тАЬThe blood centre at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital is maintaining its stock with careful and systematic planning. With upcoming blood donation camps and growing participation from citizens, we are confident that future demand will be effectively met. Citizens have also been urged to donate blood regularly and contribute to this life-saving causeтАЭ said Municipal Commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi.
Dr. Rajendra Wable said тАЬSo far, not a single patient has had to be turned away due to a shortage of blood, which remains a significant achievement for us. Citizens are encouraged to participate in this social cause by donating blood regularly.тАЭ
