Pimpri Chinchwad, 30th May 2026: Pimpri Chinchwad Mayor Ravi Landge on Friday announced financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh each from the civic body to the families of nine people who died after allegedly consuming spurious liquor in the Sanjaynagar area of Phugewadi.
Landge, along with MLC Uma Khapre, visited the bereaved families and offered condolences following the tragedy, which claimed nine lives and left several families devastated.
Describing the deaths as a grave and painful incident, the mayor said the loss of innocent lives due to the illegal country liquor trade was unacceptable. тАЬMany families have lost their sole breadwinners and no compensation can truly make up for their loss. Those responsible for this tragedy must face the strictest possible action,тАЭ he said.
Landge also demanded immediate and effective action against all illegal liquor manufacturing and sale activities operating in the city to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Later, the mayor visited Dapodi Police Station and reviewed the progress of the investigation with Senior Police Inspector Vijay Waghmare. He urged the police to ensure that the accused are dealt with sternly and without any leniency.
Khapre said a demand had been made to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for the immediate closure of illegal liquor dens and similar unlawful activities across the city. She added that strict action would be taken against those found responsible for the incident.
The mayor further said that efforts would also be made to secure financial assistance for the affected families from the Maharashtra government in addition to the civic bodyтАЩs relief package.
Local corporator Navnath Jagtap and other public representatives and residents were present during the visit.
