Pimpri-Chinchwad, 24th January 2026: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will elect its Mayor and Deputy Mayor on February 6, 2026, with the mayoral post reserved for the open (general) category, triggering intense lobbying within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which holds a commanding majority in the civic body.
The election schedule was finalised after the PCMC administration submitted a formal proposal to the Divisional Commissioner. Acting on this, Divisional Commissioner Dr Chandrakant Pulkundwar approved February 6 as the date for the election of the cityтАЩs top civic leadership.
According to the programme, nomination forms for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor posts will be accepted by the Municipal Secretary on February 2 between 3 pm and 5 pm. A special meeting of newly elected corporators has been convened at the PCMC headquarters at 11 am on February 6, during which the election will take place.
The special general body meeting will be chaired by Cooperation Commissioner Deepak Tavare, who has been appointed as the presiding officer for the election process. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be elected during this session through the prescribed voting procedure.
The BJP, which secured a second consecutive clear majority in the municipal elections declared on January 16, dominates the 128-member civic body with 84 corporators. The Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction) holds 37 seats, followed by the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) with six, and one Independent corporator.
With the mayoral post open to candidates from the general category, several senior BJP corporators have emerged as aspirants. Prominent names in the race include city BJP president Shatrughn Kate, Ravi Landge, Nitin Landge, Rahul Kalate, Tushar Hinge, and Uttam Kendale, making the internal contest within the ruling party increasingly competitive.
Confirming the schedule, PCMC Municipal Secretary Mukesh Kolpe said that the nomination window will be open on February 2 and that all arrangements have been made for the special general body meeting on February 6.
Chinchwad or Bhosari Likely to Claim MayorтАЩs Post:
Political observers are closely tracking whether the mayoral position will go to the Chinchwad or Bhosari Assembly constituency. Following the BJPтАЩs rise to power in PCMC in 2017, the mayorтАЩs post was held by corporators from the Bhosari constituency for the first half of the term, with Nitin Kalje and Rahul Jadhav serving successive tenures from the backward citizens category.
In the latter half of the term, Usha Dhore from the Chinchwad constituency served as Mayor for two-and-a-half years from the open women category. With a new term now underway, speculation has intensified over which constituency will secure the prestigious post this time.
