Pimpri-Chinchwad, 6th February 2026: Elected governance will return to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Friday with the election of the mayor and deputy mayor, bringing an end to nearly four years of administrative rule.
With this, the functioning of corporators will officially begin. The term of the corporators elected in February 2017 had ended on March 13, 2022. However, municipal elections were delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the OBC reservation issue, court proceedings and shifting political equations in the state. Since then, the civic body had been under administrative rule, with commissioners Rajesh Patil, Shekhar Singh and Shravan Hardikar serving as administrators.
Following directions from the Supreme Court, municipal elections were held in January, with counting conducted on January 16. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the single largest party with 84 seats, returning to power for a second term. The Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction) won 37 seats, the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) secured six seats, and one independent candidate was elected.
The mayoral election is being held 21 days after the results. Ravi Landge is set to be elected mayor unopposed. For the deputy mayorтАЩs post, BJPтАЩs Sharmila Babar and NCPтАЩs Vaishali Kalbhor have filed nominations, making it uncertain whether the election will be contested or if the NCP will withdraw.
After nearly four years, the Yashwantrao Chavan Auditorium at the civic headquarters will reopen for a special meeting. Preparations of official chambers and committee halls have been completed. The five-year term of the newly elected corporators will begin on Friday and continue until February 5, 2031.
