Pimpri Chinchwad, 15th May 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has initiated a major crackdown against rising dust pollution in the city and show-cause notices have been issued to 179 builders and developers for allegedly violating pollution control norms at construction sites.
The action has created a stir in the cityтАЩs real estate sector, with the civic body warning that construction permits of projects failing to comply with regulations could be suspended or cancelled.
With large-scale construction activity underway across Pimpri Chinchwad, dust pollution has become a growing concern, affecting public health, particularly children, senior citizens and people suffering from respiratory ailments. The civic body had been receiving repeated complaints from residents regarding increasing dust levels in several areas.
During inspections, PCMC officials found that many construction sites had failed to implement mandatory dust-control measures. In several cases, green safety nets had not been installed around project sites, while regular water sprinkling was also not being carried out, allowing dust to spread onto roads and nearby residential areas.
Officials also found improper disposal of construction debris, cement waste spilling onto roads and inadequate pollution-control mechanisms at several projects.
Following the findings, the civic administration directed developers to immediately implement corrective measures.
The anti-pollution drive has been intensified in areas including Wakad, Punawale, Ravet, Tathawade, Charholi, Moshi, Chikhali, Thergaon, Pimpri, Bopkhel, Pimple Saudagar, Kasarwadi and Dapodi, where rapid construction activity has led to alarming pollution levels. Several prominent construction companies are also among those issued notices.
тАЬInstructions had earlier been given to construction sites causing pollution to implement preventive measures. However, 179 projects continued work despite ignoring the directions, following which notices were issued. If corrective measures are still not taken, their construction permissions will be cancelled,тАЭ said Sanjay Kulkarni, Chief Engineer of PCMC.
The civic administration said development cannot come at the cost of public health and warned that no leniency would be shown to violators.
Meanwhile, residents angered by worsening pollution have welcomed the action and are now closely watching how many projects eventually face strict penalties.
