Pimpri Chinchwad, 22nd June 2026: Pimpri Chinchwad could soon become home to India’s first dedicated centre for tribal arts, skills and crafts, with Maharashtra Revenue Minister assuring support for the project during a review meeting held at Mantralaya in Mumbai.
The proposed centre, conceptualised by Padma Shri awardee Girish Prabhune and aimed at nurturing children from tribal and marginalised communities, is expected to come up on government land in Pimpri Chinchwad. The proposal will be placed before the state cabinet for approval, officials said.
The assurance came during a meeting chaired by Bawankule to review pending revenue-related issues concerning Pimpri Chinchwad and the Bhosari Assembly constituency. BJP MLA Mahesh Landge, who attended the meeting, said seven key demands linked to the city’s development received a positive response from the state government.
According to officials, the Krantiveer Chapekar Memorial Committee had sought 15 hectares of land for the tribal arts and crafts project. The government is considering allotting 10 hectares in the first phase and an additional five hectares later. The proposed campus will include institutional buildings as well as open spaces dedicated to preserving and promoting indigenous art forms and traditional skills.
Among other decisions, the government directed officials to resolve the long-pending issue of issuing property cards for properties in the Pimpri Chinchwad New Town Development Authority area within six months through coordination between revenue authorities and the civic administration.
Approval was also granted in principle for constructing permanent buildings for talathi and circle officer offices in the Bhosari constituency and strengthening staffing at the deputy tehsildar office to improve revenue services. Officials were further asked to expedite a proposal to bring Bopkhel, Dudulgaon, Charholi Budruk and Chovisawadi under the jurisdiction of the city survey office in Pimpri Chinchwad.
The Pune district administration has also been directed to identify and propose a permanent site for the Pimpri Chinchwad deputy tehsildar office within 15 days.
Landge said the decisions would help address several long-pending civic and administrative issues while accelerating the city’s development.
