Pimpri Chinchwad, 21st January 2026: Citing rapid population growth and rising civic demands, BJP election in-charge and Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap has urged the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to increase the number of ward offices from eight to ten to improve administrative efficiency and service delivery.
Jagtap submitted a memorandum to Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar, stating that over the past decade the city has seen significant population growth, urban expansion and a sharp rise in civic complaints. As a result, the existing eight ward offices are under heavy administrative and service-related pressure, leading to delays in grievance redressal, licensing and other civic services.
He pointed out that limited decentralisation has weakened local-level decision-making and slowed service delivery. Under the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, the number of ward offices can be increased up to 13 based on population. Considering Pimpri-ChinchwadтАЩs population size, geographical spread and administrative needs, Jagtap said increasing the number to ten is both feasible and necessary.
Jagtap said the proposal aligns with the BJPтАЩs тАЬGood GovernanceтАЭ vision of decentralising services to ensure faster, transparent and citizen-centric administration. He added that more ward offices would help resolve complaints more quickly, strengthen local decision-making and ensure timely delivery of essential civic services to residents.
