Pimpri Chinchwad, 19th May 2026: Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has warned cable operators and internet service providers against illegally using civic electric poles for overhead TV and internet cables, saying such unauthorised installations pose safety risks, damage public infrastructure and amount to encroachment on municipal property under the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act.
In a public notice issued on Tuesday, the civic body said it had observed that several organisations and individuals had laid TV and internet cables on municipal streetlight poles across the city without obtaining prior permission from the corporation. The electrical department clarified that PCMC has not granted permission to any operator for such installations.
The corporation said the unauthorised cables could lead to accidents and had already caused damage to electrical poles and related infrastructure in some cases, creating serious public safety concerns. It added that the hanging cables were also affecting the cityтАЩs aesthetics, prompting complaints from citizens, NGOs, elected representatives and civic members.
PCMC stated that any operator intending to lay network, TV or other cables within municipal limits must first obtain a licence from the civic bodyтАЩs Sky Sign and Licence Department. The corporation also said that after obtaining permission, operators would be required to use the Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) network developed under the Pimpri Chinchwad Smart City project or lay cables through designated ducts.
The civic body has directed all cable operators and internet service providers to submit documents including valid licences, GST or MSME certificates, identity and address proofs, Shop Act licences, details of overhead and underground cable networks, previous fee payment receipts and copies of permissions granted by PCMC for cable laying works.
Operators have been asked to submit the required documents within 30 days at the electrical department office on the first floor of the PCMC headquarters. The corporation warned that action would be initiated through the anti-encroachment department against operators who fail to comply within the stipulated period. PCMC also said it would not be responsible for inconvenience caused to citizens during such action and that the concerned operators would be held accountable.
