Pimpri Chinchwad, 2nd June 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Tuesday carried out a demolition drive against illegal constructions obstructing an ongoing road-widening project in Thergaon, clearing encroachments spread across 1,858.25 square metres.
The action was undertaken by the encroachment removal department of the civic bodyтАЩs G Ward Office in Ward No. 24 along the stretch between Lemon Tree Hotel and Morya Banquet Hall, where road-widening work is currently underway.
According to PCMC officials, unauthorised structures at 30 locations were removed during the operation. The drive was conducted on the directions of Municipal Commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi, under the guidance of Additional Commissioner Trupti Sandbhor and the supervision of G Ward Officer Mukesh Kolap.
The operation involved Deputy Engineers Sunil Belgaonkar and Jaywant Rokade, along with 14 beat inspectors from the B, D and G ward offices. A team comprising 40 Maharashtra Security Force (MSF) personnel, one police sub-inspector, nine police personnel, 10 contract workers and seven civic labourers participated in the drive. Five JCB machines were deployed to remove the encroachments.
The Urban Transport Department, Electrical Department, Town Planning Department and other concerned civic departments also assisted in the operation.
Speaking about the drive, Municipal Commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi said road widening was essential to make the cityтАЩs transport network safer, smoother and more efficient.
