Pimpri Chinchwad, 2nd June 2026: Ahead of the upcoming monsoon season, the drain-cleaning drive across Pimpri Chinchwad has gathered pace, with the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) completing 92.33% of the planned work. The civic administration has undertaken the exercise in a systematic and time-bound manner to prevent waterlogging, accumulation of silt, and local flooding during the rains, bringing the campaign into its final phase.
The drain-cleaning drive was launched in March through various regional offices of the municipal corporation. The project covers a total of 141 drains spanning 94,913 metres across the city. Progress stood at just 5.04% on March 16. However, with work being intensified during April and May, completion reached 85.84% by May 25 and further increased to 92.33% by June 1.
Among the Zonal offices, several have recorded notable progress. The G Zonal Office has achieved 100% completion of drain-cleaning work, while the F division has completed 99.61% and the E division 98.44% of the targeted work. Cleaning operations in the remaining divisions are also in their final stages, with the administration aiming to complete the exercise across the city before the onset of the monsoon.
Every year, the accumulation of silt, plastic waste and other debris in drains obstructs water flow, resulting in waterlogging in several areas and, in some cases, localised flooding. Keeping this in mind, the municipal corporation has adopted a more stringent and planned approach this year, with special focus on sensitive locations and areas prone to water accumulation.

PCMC Commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi said that drain-cleaning works are being carried out on a war footing to ensure that citizens do not face waterlogging and flooding-related issues during the monsoon. He added that the progress of all regional offices is being reviewed regularly and emphasis is being placed on completing the work effectively within the stipulated timeframe.
Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Thengal said that the works are being assessed not only on the basis of quantity but also on quality parameters. The silt and waste removed from the drains are being promptly collected and scientifically disposed of. He added that special attention is being paid to vulnerable locations that may face problems during the monsoon.
According to the municipal administration, the extensive drain-cleaning campaign is expected to strengthen the cityтАЩs stormwater drainage system and ensure smoother water flow during the monsoon, significantly reducing incidents of waterlogging and local flooding.
